New technology is making it easier for cardiothoracic surgeons to perform minimally invasive mitral valve repair. Among the options is robotic surgery, but training on robotic systems and expert advice on how to build a successful program have been sparse. That’s why The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is offering its first 2-day Robotic Mitral Valve Repair Symposium.

Led by course instructors with successful track records in robotic surgery, this Friday-Saturday symposium will help attendees get ahead of the learning curve. Cardiothoracic surgeons and other team members will learn how to perform robotic mitral valve procedures—from positioning to atriotomies to postoperative care. They’ll also get tips on how to successfully launch a robotic mitral valve program within a hospital setting, as well as proper prerequisites, individual and team skills, supplies and equipment, training, administrative elements, and team requirements.
